Muscadet “Les Éclats” 2023 – meaning “shards” or “brilliance” – made from Melon de Bourgogne grapes grown on the unique gabbro terroir in Mouzillon. Its vinification and 18-month aging on lees, carried out in neutral underground glass vats, preserve and enhance the mineral purity of the fruit. On the nose, it reveals fresh aromas of green apple, lemon zest, and white flowers, enhanced by a hint of iodine. On the palate, lively energy and crisp acidity carry citrus flavors before a long, salty, and deeply stony finish. A purist Muscadet, refreshing and offering absolute transparency about its terroir.
Jean-Baptiste Hardy is a rising star in the Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine appellation, bringing fresh energy to the region. Trained with Jean Marc Roulot & Domaine Leflaive, and working in vineyards all around the world including Patagonia (Bodega Chacra), California (Domaine de la Côte) and New Zealand (Fromm Winery), Jean-Baptiste took over his family estate (Domaine de la Grange) in 2018 located in Mouzillon in Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine.
Jean-Baptiste has now converted 8.5 hectares of the family vineyards to Biodynamic culture, all planted with only the local varieties – Melon de Bourgogne, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and old Merlot. The Melon de Bourgogne vines are only from massale selection, planted in the 1950s and 1960s on typical Muscadet terroir: complex soils of gabbros (volcanic soils and fragmented granite), silica, and clay.
