"Le Petit Clos" 2023 is Jean Baptiste Hardy's first cuvée to be made from 100% Gamay grapes. It comes from old vines planted in 1980 on the unique gabbro terroir, benefiting from northern exposure. This wine is aged for 18 months, divided between 228L barrels and amphorae, before being bottled without fining or filtration. It is characterized by a juicy, light and lively profile, with crisp aromas of fresh morello cherry and redcurrant, enhanced by a hint of white pepper. This unique expression of Gamay offers a magnificent touch of freshness.
Jean-Baptiste Hardy is a rising star in the Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine appellation, bringing fresh energy to the region. Trained with Jean Marc Roulot & Domaine Leflaive, and working in vineyards all around the world including Patagonia (Bodega Chacra), California (Domaine de la Côte) and New Zealand (Fromm Winery), Jean-Baptiste took over his family estate (Domaine de la Grange) in 2018 located in Mouzillon in Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine.
Jean-Baptiste has now converted 8.5 hectares of the family vineyards to Biodynamic culture, all planted with only the local varieties – Melon de Bourgogne, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and old Merlot. The Melon de Bourgogne vines are only from massale selection, planted in the 1950s and 1960s on typical Muscadet terroir: complex soils of gabbros (volcanic soils and fragmented granite), silica, and clay.
