Muscadet « Fief De Chaintre » is a 100% Melon de Bourgogne from an old massal selection planted in 1960, in Mouzillon, from Loam soil and gabbro subsoil - northen exposure. Naturally farmed and traditionally vinified for 12 months on lees with its own yeast. In 450L barrels. Then aged in underground glass-lined tanks for 6 months unfined and unfiltered. Its opulent nose reveals yellow fruits, ripe pear, and dried herbs, promising a dense and structured palate. Although its acidity is not sharp, a strong minerality in the mid-palate ensures the balance of this unique gastronomic wine.
Jean-Baptiste Hardy is a rising star in the Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine appellation, bringing fresh energy to the region. Trained with Jean Marc Roulot & Domaine Leflaive, and working in vineyards all around the world including Patagonia (Bodega Chacra), California (Domaine de la Côte) and New Zealand (Fromm Winery), Jean-Baptiste took over his family estate (Domaine de la Grange) in 2018 located in Mouzillon in Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine.
Jean-Baptiste has now converted 8.5 hectares of the family vineyards to Biodynamic culture, all planted with only the local varieties – Melon de Bourgogne, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and old Merlot. The Melon de Bourgogne vines are only from massale selection, planted in the 1950s and 1960s on typical Muscadet terroir: complex soils of gabbros (volcanic soils and fragmented granite), silica, and clay.
