Muscadet “Clos de Lozangère” is a single vineyard selection from old mass-selected Melon de Bourgogne planted in the 1950s in Mouzillon on silty-sandy soil resting on a gabbro subsoil. This origin gives the wine a taut texture, rocky tension, and frank minerality. Its aromatic profile evokes candied lemon and citrus peel, while on the palate it unfolds with volume before stretching out into a long, fresh and salty finish. Jean Baptiste Hardy offers the cuvée which, by its character and structure, most closely matches the classic and typical archetype of Muscadet.
Jean-Baptiste Hardy is a rising star in the Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine appellation, bringing fresh energy to the region. Trained with Jean Marc Roulot & Domaine Leflaive, and working in vineyards all around the world including Patagonia (Bodega Chacra), California (Domaine de la Côte) and New Zealand (Fromm Winery), Jean-Baptiste took over his family estate (Domaine de la Grange) in 2018 located in Mouzillon in Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine.
Jean-Baptiste has now converted 8.5 hectares of the family vineyards to Biodynamic culture, all planted with only the local varieties – Melon de Bourgogne, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and old Merlot. The Melon de Bourgogne vines are only from massale selection, planted in the 1950s and 1960s on typical Muscadet terroir: complex soils of gabbros (volcanic soils and fragmented granite), silica, and clay.
