" In 2023, all the Gamays that went into "Au chant de la huppe" and "Rouge 2022" are blended into this cuvée. It consists of two plots primarily made up of old Gamay vines from Auvergne and Beaujolais Gamays. There are also a few other varieties of Gamay in limited quantities. The soil is predominantly rich red clay high in iron oxide, with an outcropping of limestone in part and highly decomposed granite with a lot of quartz in another part. There is one week of maceration with whole bunches in large stainless steel tanks. Only pump-overs with a bucket are done to wet the cap. He sometimes draw off a bit of free-run juice after a few days of fermentation to preserve the brightness of the fruit. There is 9 months of aging + 9 months in bottle afterward. 50% in old 228-liter barrels and 50% in stainless steel tanks. Uninoculated - Unfined - Unfiltered. 1 g/hl at bottling."
Boudes - Auvergne
Henri Chauvet is revitalizing the Auvergne wine region with his biodynamic estate in Boudes. After a career in corporate banking, Henri pursued viticulture, training in the Rhône Valley under renowned winemakers like Thierry Allemand and Jérôme Bressy. In 2021, he took over a 10.5-hectare estate previously owned by iconic local winemaker Annie Sauvat, producing his first vintage.
The estate focuses on Gamay, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay, grown on diverse soils including pink granite, quartz, and volcanic marble. Henri’s wines already showcase the region’s potential, with each cuvée reflecting the unique terroir and a deep connection to the land.
